Businesses get Extra Time to Pay Tax Bill

Warwickshire accountants Murphy Salisbury are reporting that around 3,500 UK businesses have been given extra time to pay their tax bill, according to new figures.

Over £68m in business tax has been rescheduled nationwide as part of the HM Revenue & Customs Business Payment Support Service (BPSS). The service, which allows businesses in difficulty extra time to pay their tax bills, was launched following the chancellor’s pre-Budget statement at the end of November.

Paul Salisbury, managing partner at Murphy Salisbury, said: “the government are trying to support business through these testing times and we would strongly encourage any business anticipating difficulties paying their taxes to call HMRC's Business Payment Support Service.

“Around 3,500 ‘time to pay’ arrangements, totalling over £68.4m, have been agreed between 24 November and 3 December 2008 already”.

The BPSS enables businesses to speak directly with an adviser to agree an affordable timetable without incurring any extra charges.
