Murphy Salisbury Founder Retires

Stratford-based firm of Chartered Accountants, Murphy Salisbury, has bid farewell to managing partner Paul Salisbury on his retirement, almost 35 years after he set up the practice, but he will remain closely involved on a consultancy basis.

The firm will continue to offer clients the same quality service under senior partner Steve Smith, supported by partner Mark Bullock and tax partner Bobby Gupta.

Paul said: “While I am sad to be leaving, I know I am leaving Murphy Salisbury in safe hands with Steve, Mark and Bobby, who will continue to take the firm forward.

“The firm has implemented a great team structure with capable and experienced managers. I am immensely proud of how the practice has grown since 1976.”

Paul co-founded Murphy Salisbury with Patrick Murphy in 1976, when the firm was based in a small office in Mansell Street, in Stratford, with just one secretary. Today, the practice is based in offices in Warwick Road with three partners and 36 staff.

Born and raised in Rugby, the former Ashlawn School pupil first started working for an accountancy firm called CH Ivens & Co in his home town, qualifying in 1972.

He then joined KPMG, one of the Big Four firms, where he remained for three years before leaving to start Murphy Salisbury.

Paul, who is married with a son and daughter, and one granddaughter, plans to spend his retirement playing more golf, taking more holidays and perhaps some gardening.

A staff party to mark Paul’s retirement took place at the Baraset Barn restaurant, in Stratford, on July 2nd.
